Normal working role is as a Night Assistant at the Anglo Australian Telescope (AAT) located in western NSW, Australia. The AAT is the largest optical telescope in Australia with a main mirror diameter of 3.9m. A Night Assistant is the person who guides the telescope's operation during the night, on behalf of the 'observer/s' (the astronomer/s proper). It's a fascinating place to be, watching live data roll in from various instruments, although I should add that these instruments are mostly dedicated to high-resolution spectroscopy of various kinds, and not any type of direct imaging.
